BOARD [Celebrating Ontario’s Innovators
Toronto, Ontario]

SUPER [Cameron Piron
President & CEO, Sentinelle Medical]

Cameron Piron: The power of MRI, that’s just being tapped now, is the ability to see very small lesions earlier, before any other technologies. So in fact, if you get a cancer under 1 cm in size, your prognosis is almost as good as if you never had cancer. Sentinelle Medical, research, develop, manufacture, sell and service a line of medical imaging equipment and we’re one of the pioneering groups to look at the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for small lesions and early cancer detection. Doing business in Ontario has been fantastic for us. There’s been a great support for Ontario companies, particularly from the Ontario Government. We do all levels of production here; we’re actually quite proud of that, doing that here in Canada.

SUPER [John Wilkinson
Minister of Research and Innovation]

John Wilkinson: Last year we were so delighted to recognize this company as being the best young innovator in Ontario. It’s new ideas that create new jobs, and right now, more than ever, Ontario needs those new jobs.

Cameron Piron: The winning of the Premier’s Innovation Award was incredibly exciting for us. It was the first time we had been recognized; and that’s been great for the company and it’s been great for a lot of individuals in the company. The company started with three founders, but now we’re up to 140 people. We expect to double again within the next 6 to 12 months. I think that there is a lot of prejudice against a young company. To make a mark you have to be extraordinarily innovative. We provide the tools to give the confidence for people that diagnose these diseases, and the accuracy of being able to do something about it.
