[November 18, 2009]

[Deb Matthews]
[Minister of Health and Long-Term Care]

We have no successfully completed the phased in sequenced immunization program for the H1N1 virus. Starting tomorrow anyone in the province who wants to be vaccinated for H1N1 will be able to get the shot. Were opening up our immunization program to everyone in Ontario aged six months and over, no matter their age no matter their health conditions. It’s a big step forward at out vaccination program and one, were taking earlier than we expected. We’ve immunized two point five million people in three weeks. It’s an extraordinary achievement. Were confident that we will now have enough supply of vaccine-today we’ve already received four million doses. So we’re expecting to get a minimum of five hundred thousand doses next week. This puts us on very solid ground, and thanks to the tremendous efforts of our public health staff and our health care workers. We now have enough capacity in our system to accommodate everyone.
