I’m Jason Boylan, and I’ve been in the workforce for 14 years.
I’ve owned my own business.
I was laid-off from the auto sector, and now I’m in the Second Career Program.
When I was laid-off, it was a point in my life where it was kind of like the fork in the road, you have to decide which road to take.
It was kind of a situation in my life where I was kind of confused, but once you hit that right road, get the right path, you’re going in the right direction.
I heard about Second Career from the Fleming College Assessment Centre and the Northern Lights Assessment Centre here in Peterborough, Ontario.
I went to these places just by walking in their door, and I was greeted with open arms.
My future, and my career that I’m getting from Second Career Program is actually a career within the Culinary Management field.
It’s something that I’ve wanted to do since I was pretty much a kid.
My initial thoughts were: comfort.
Finances: it’s been very easy, non-stress.
I come to school, and do my work.
It’s like a job; you’re getting paid to actually physically come to school.
Second Career experience to date has been wonderful.
It’s been kind of a second breath at life, giving me an opportunity to have a career, not just a job.
I feel my future is going to be pretty bright.
I’ve pretty much set myself up not to fail.
The Second Career program has given me a lot of confidence.
A lot of people are low when they get laid-off, but you can always bounce back.
