H1N1 News Conference - November 1, 2009
BOARD [November 1, 2009]
SUPER [Hon. Deb Matthews
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care]
Hon. Deb Matthews: We are working hard to get the vaccine out across the province, and I know this has been difficult. People are anxious about H1N1, and I certainly understand your anxieties. I'm a mom too, like you I want to do everything I can to protect my family, my children, and my grandchild.
Already, tens of thousands of people across the province have had the H1N1 flu-shot. But, as we outlined on Friday, the vaccine supply we're receiving this week is significantly lower than we had expected. So, for the week of November 2nd, we will immunize people only in priority groups.
SUPER [Dr. Arlene King
Chief Medical Officer of Health]
Dr. Arlene King: These groups are, to repeat: people under 65 down to 6 months of age with chronic underlying health conditions; pregnant women; healthy children 6 months to under 5 years of age; people living in remote or isolated communities; health-care workers; and house-hold contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized.
Deb Matthews: If you are not a member of a priority group, please wait your turn.
