Tanys Howell -- Succession Planning
TANYS HOWELL
I think, when I'm listening to us talk about the importance of the principalship and leadership within the schools - and I'm including our vice principals in that as well - I think about the change that I'm seeing in leadership across the province where younger and younger people are now becoming administrators. Many of us who are experienced are retiring, and I look at the necessity in building relationships because I believe that relationship building - whether it's with your students or your staff or your community - are key to the success for student learning. And I'm also concerned about our younger colleagues who, perhaps, know and can identify what it is that needs to happen, but are not sure exactly how to go about that. And I think that part of what we need to do is, as people who are working within our schools is to provide our professional learning communities within ourselves as leaders as well, so that we are focusing on helping to build capacity across our system in shared leadership and shared understanding of what's going to contribute to the most success for our students.
