Today we mark the changing of command in one of our province's defining institutions, the Ontario Provincial Police.

On behalf of 13 million Ontarians who are so proud of the Ontario Provincial Police, I say to all the men and women who serve in our OPP, "Thank you for everything that you do for us."

I also want to thank Commissioner Fantino for four strong and productive years of service to the Ontario Provincial Police and a lifetime of service to the people of Ontario.

It was my privilege to attend the commissioning parade in 2006 where you, sir, succeeded Commissioner Boniface.

And today, as you formally hand over command of the OPP to Commissioner Lewis, we celebrate the continuity that can only come through strong and steady leadership.

Commissioner Lewis, you have seen a lot of changes to policing over your more than 30 years on the job. In fact, you have had a direct hand in making many of those changes happen.

All of us know that one thing will never change, and that is our shared commitment to keeping our community safe and strong.

On behalf of the people of Ontario and the men and women that will serve with you, thank you, Commissioner Lewis, for taking on the new challenge of leading the Ontario Provincial Police.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
