[Property Tax Grant helps seniors stay at home]
[2009]

[Santo Molinaro]

I live with in this house with my wife. Her name is Congeta. Thanks God we are together. For two people it's a nice house. I have a little garden. I plant a few tomatoes, few beans, basil. When it comes the time I don't have to go to the store to buy. I'm 79 years old. I used to make eleven thousand dollars a year. I'm not poor but on a tax - this year I receive 250 dollar. Maybe next year I can do 500 dollar. At least we can shop one week, one week and a half.

[President, United Senior Citizens of Ontario]

This grant will be a great help to the low-income seniors and the moderate income seniors. So, I find seniors are much happier and healthier and live longer when they are able to stay in their own home. And it means that they government is keeping to their commitment - which is very important to the seniors.

[Dwight Duncan]
[Minister of Finance]

We're doing this to help seniors stay in their homes, to live more comfortably, to help them with the cost of their homes, to help them deal with changing property tax values. So this year the grant is 250 - it will be rising to 500 dollars next year.

And here is my daughter and my son is here. This is the Pope.

They've worked hard all their lives, government wants to make it easier for them to live comfortably and enjoy the quality of life they expect and deserve.

A house for me is like a piece of gold. If we get another hundred dollars - we appreciate.
